Environmental Remediation
In the early 1990s, the strengthening of "green movements" directed the attention of both the industry and the public to environmental damage that could have far-reaching and severe consequences. Such environmental damages occurred in underground waters and soils. Some of these were caused by random events, known as "havaria," such as equipment malfunctions or technological failures. Unfortunately, many of these pollutions resulted from human negligence or, in some cases, deliberate activities. Examples include buried barrels of galvanic sludge, chemicals, oily sludge, and the list goes on.
To remediate such types of pollution, two key elements are required. First, there is a need for technological knowledge to understand how to eliminate these substances from either water or solid-phase soil. Second, specialized equipment and "specialized" work are needed for the cleaning operations - the environmental remediation. These jobs are unique in that the appropriate technology needs to be temporarily installed in a location where basic infrastructure such as water, electricity, and roads is often lacking. This technology must be operated for a shorter or longer period until the required level of cleanliness is achieved. This period can range from a few months to several years.
Körte Environmental Technology Ltd. has acquired valuable experience in the treatment of industrial wastewater, which has proven to be highly applicable in environmental remediation activities. We have built dozens of wastewater treatment systems for galvanizing plants, surface treatment facilities, machinery factories, and chemical industry plants, where we had the opportunity to develop various treatment methods (laboratory and occasionally semi-industrial scale) and install them. As one of the first players in the Hungarian market, we provided operation services for the systems we built, providing valuable insights for environmental remediation projects. We already had the equipment necessary for on-site, temporary work, which was linked to our "mobile sludge dewatering service" activity. Adapting these resources to specific tasks was not a problem, as we have our manufacturing capacity capable of producing the necessary equipment.
All of these factors helped our company successfully bid on and win contracts in the first tenders issued within the scope of state responsibility. Examples of such projects include:
- - Remediation of hydrocarbon-contaminated groundwater at abandoned Russian military barracks.
- - Cleanup of pollution caused by illegally deposited galvanic sludge in a floodplain.
- - Remediation of soil contaminated with resinous substances.
- - Mitigation of environmental damage caused by a decommissioned chemical plant, and more.
